Univers Bastard Swiss it up... Assembly.
‘Could you Swiss it up a bit?’ This quote from an anonymous senior designer inspired me to engage with Swiss typography on a purely aesthetic level. Distilling this modernist movement down to visual attributes while disregarding any theoretical knowledge, meant I could explore the aesthetic commonalities of this era of design. This lead to the removal of serifs from several fonts, and allowed me to ‘Swiss them up a bit...’ The laboring, physical process of removing serifs from a solid metal letterform was undertaken to reflect the passion and commitment of these modernist typographers as they strived to create a better world rather than a just a stylistic stereotype.
